Toyota commits to three car Le Mans entry

2 February 2017

Toyota Gazoo Racing has confirmed it will mount a three-car assault on the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the trio appearing at round two of the 2017 WEC.

The team will use an updated TS050 for the 2017 World Endurance Championship, which will be revealed at Monza, ahead of the official two-day WEC pre-season test.

“I believe this is an exciting time for Toyota Gazoo Racing in endurance racing,” said team president Toshio Sato. “Entering three cars for Spa and Le Mans represents a new challenge for our team. We are working hard to be prepared and we are inspired to win.”

The team claims it is opting for a three-car entry at the legendary 24 hour race to “demonstrate its commitment racing” and also increase its chances of victory after narrowly missing out on success at the 2016 edition.

As team’s have done before it, Toyota Gazoo Racing will also enter a third car in the Six Hours of Spa, the second round of the WEC. It is expected that one of the team’s three cars will run using Le Mans specification bodywork in order to prepare for the 24 hour race.
