Scans confirm Pedrosa hip injury.

Dani Pedrosa returned home to Barcelona on Monday where Doctor Xavier Mir, at the USP Institut Universitari Dexeus, confirmed that the Repsol Honda rider had not suffered any further injuries when he crashed out of Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix (pictured).

However, Pedrosa was already riding injured after hurting his right hip during a near-highside on Saturday morning - and Monday’s scans confirmed that the initial diagnosis at the circuit had been correct: Pedrosa had pulled the gluteus medius muscle, which caused a small crack in the greater trochanter (thigh) bone where the muscle attaches.

The factory RCV rider will now rest ahead of his second home event of the year, the grand prix of Catalunya, in just under two weeks' time.

"It’s a relief that the tests today didn’t show up anything new because I think I have enough to contend with already,” admitted Pedrosa, who has undergone two knee operations and forearm surgery since the end of last season.

“The injury from Saturday is still quite painful obviously but with luck it will improve over the next week.

“The timing of this a real shame because I was feeling as though I was returning to something close to race fitness and could ride the bike as I wanted.

“Still, this is where we are so we’ll just get on with it and try to make a quick recovery. I really hope I can be fit for the next race because it’s a very important one for me and the team."

Pedrosa’s first DNF of the year means he has now lost touch with title leaders Casey Stoner, Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi - who finished first, second and third in Sunday’s race.

Dani, the only Honda rider to finish on the podium this season, is now 33 points behind Stoner with twelve of the 17 rounds remaining.
