The dominance of Renault and Ferrari in Formula 1 this year was recognised at a special awards ceremony in London with senior engineers from both teams receiving awards that recognised their talents.
John Iley, Head of Aerodynamics at Ferrari F1, received his trophy for the Racecar Aerodynamicist of the year award and Rob White, Deputy Managing Director (engines) at Renault F1, received his trophy for the Race Engine Designer of 2006 Awards at special dinner that was held at the RAF Museum in London as part of the World Motorsport Symposium organized by Racecar Graphic Ltd, the publishers of Race Tech and Bernoulli magazines.
Deutsch UK, a name well known in the motorsport industry, was the recipient of the inaugural Most Innovative New Motorsport Product 2006 award for its groundbreaking double density connectors.

"I am pleased to accept the Racecar Aerodynamicist of the Year award on behalf of the aero department at Ferrari F1," said John Iley, on receiving the special trophy from Soheila Kimberley, publishing director of Race Tech and Bernoulli magazines. "Along with the entire team, we have all worked very hard this year to ensure we remain as competitive as we have been and giving both drivers the chance to win races."
Rob White also paid tribute to his engine team, saying that he was accepting the trophy on its behalf. "I am proud to be a part of the team that has provided Fernando Alonso with his second consecutive World Championship. Everyone at Renault F1 has worked very hard to maintain our superiority over our competitors. I am pleased to accept the Race Engine Designer award on behalf of everyone in the department."
On receiving his award from Danny Lopez, executive director of marketing at UK Trade & Investment, the host sponsor, Dave Watters, head of autosport at the company, said: "Deutsch is name that is very well known to motorsport engineers and I am honoured that we have been recognised for the innovative range of double density connectors that has been especially developed for the motorsport industry."
The World Motorsport Symposium took place at the RAF Museum in London on 29/30 November with the special awards dinner taking place at the Milestones of Flight Hall on the 29th. The first day of the Symposium was dedicated to Racing Engine Technology and the second day to Aerodynamics with attendees from around the world.
