BMW M8 to compete in 24 Hours of Le Mans
BMW is developing a racing version of its upcoming M8 that will compete in the World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The M8 GTE which was first tested on track at the Lausitzring in Germany (video below) recently continued testing and development of the new racer at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. The car uses bespoke bodywork and a race-adjusted turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine and six-speed sequential gearbox.

The M8 GTE will be down on power compared to the road going version, but lightweighting and its extreme chassis set up means it will be significantly faster on track. Useful, given that BMW is entering the M8 GTE in both the FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar championship. The racer will debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January, but the real prize BMW will have its sights set on is the 2018 24 Hours of Le Mans.
