Risi Competizione Ferrari won’t contest entire 2018 IMSA season

The Risi Competizione  Ferrari GT team has revealed that it will not contest the entire 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

The semi-works team which has long represented the Italian marque in North American GT racing, is set to take part in the GTLM class in the season’s opener, the Daytona 24, but will then process on a race-by-race basis, with a preference likely given to those rounds that form the North American Endurance Cup.

According to a Risi spokesperson, “nothing is set in stone at the moment”, but discussions as to which races the team will enter are ongoing.

“We are going to do Daytona and will take it from there,” she said.

The Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona will be contested by both Risi’s GT Le Mans class Ferrari 488 GTE by factory drivers James Calado, Alessandro Pier Guidi and Toni Vilander and its GT Daytona class Ferrari 488 GT3, driven by Miguel Molina, Martin Fuentes, Ricardo Perez de Lara and Santiago Creel.

After this, it is expected the team will take on the second race of the season, the 12 hours of Sebring, but it is unclear which other races, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, will be contested.
