NASCAR drops driver-adjustable trackbar for 2019

NASCAR drivers will no longer be able to make adjustments to their car’s trackbars from their cars from the 2019 season.

The adjustable trackbars meant that drivers could countenance some suspension setup problems without stopping, as well as changing the car’s handling to match changing conditions. With the driver-adjustable trackbar outlawed from next year, all of these changes will now have to be made during pitstops.

NASCAR  says the change has been brought about by drivers, which according to its senior vice president of competition Scott Miller, weren’t happy with the results of the adjustable trackbar’s implementation in 2015.

“We’ve had the driver-adjustable trackbar for quite a while now and many of them came to us and said, ‘Hey, look. This really didn’t do what we’d hoped for and we’d rather not have it,’” he said. “So part of the 2019 rules is that the driver-adjustable, cockpit-adjustable trackbar is no longer in play for 2019.”

The move means that for NASCAR teams, pitstops become ever more crucial, as the car will have to come into the pits once again to right any errors.
