NASCAR Mustang hits the track
Ford Performance has introduced its 2019 NASCAR challenger with a video of the car getting put through its paces at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The video shows the new Mustang being driven sideways by Monster Energy Nascar Cup Series champion, Joey Logano under the watchful eye of expert drifter, Vaughn Gittin Jr.
Although, over the years, the Mustang has competed in SCCA, Trans-Am, IMSA, NHRA, Formula Drift and NASCAR’s 2nd tier Xfinity series, it has never been raced in the stock-car series’ top class. That is set to change next year, when it makes its competition debut at the Daytona 500 on February 17.
The Cup-level Mustang is the result of collaboration between NASCAR, Ford performance and design teams, and NASCAR teams that field entries for the marque. Designers and engineers worked hard to create a car that will be both competitive yet still remain true to its pony-car heritage.
