Porsche enjoyed ‘perfect’ test at Daytona

7 January 2019

Porsche says that its new 911 GT3 R made a successful debut at the Roar before the 24, the three official test days ahead of Florida’s 24-hour sportscar event.

At the tests, Porsche’s customer teams, Pfaff Motorsport, Park Place Motorsport, NGT Motorsport and Black Swan Racing gained important insights from the first US outing of the circa 500 hp race car. Over the two test days the GT3 Rs covered a total of 484 laps on the 5.73 km track, giving teams plenty of experience with the racer.

“The new Porsche 911 GT3 R has passed its first test in the USA,” said 911 GT3 R project manager Sebastian Golz. “For our customer teams and their drivers, the emphasis on day one was predominantly about getting familiar with the new car. On day two we made great progress in terms of the setup. The lap times were strong and the consistency over longer distances looked good as well. With our customer teams I think we should be well prepared for the race week at the end of the month.”

Porsche’s 911 RSR race cars also enjoyed a successful test, covering 2,120 km under the changeable conditions of the Roar. The test was informative for the team, and helped improve the setup, and make tyre comparisons.
