Toro Rosso has high expectations for 2017
Franz Tost, team principal at Scuderia Toro Rosso, expects a lot from the Formula 1 team in 2017 as it has “all the ingredients” for a competitive package.
The Italian based team is reverting back to using Renault power in 2017 after a difficult, under-powered season with 2015 specification Ferrari V6 hybrids.
“With Renault we have a new engine partner and its power unit is quite strong and I hope this will also be the case next year,” Tost explained. “We have two experienced drivers, which was never the case before at Toro Rosso, and also the team itself is improving.”
Due to being down on power throughout the season, Tost’s team sits seventh in the World Constructors’ Championship largely thanks to the STR-11 chassis and its aero development.
The same team that worked on this years car is now developing the team’s 12th car in-line with the 2017 technical regulations, all under the watchful eye of technical director James Key.
“I think we have all the ingredients together to come up with a very competitive package, because the technical staff, under the lead of James Key, have in the last years done a fantastic good job,” Tost added. “I expect a lot from the team and I hope that everything works into the direction what we think will be the case.
