Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept coming to NASCAR
According to various sources, Toyota is planning on replacing the Camry with the recently introduced fifth-generation Supra model to NASCAR’s Xfinity Series next year.
The Japanese carmaker has been a consistent factor in NASCAR since joining in 2002, winning its first NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2015 with Kyle Busch and again in last year with Martin Truex Jr. It follows Chevrolet which is introducing the Camaro and Ford the Mustang next year as the series transitions more to sportscars.
The Supra was launched at the Geneva Show in March, Toyota claiming that the GR Supra Racing Concept is a competition-ready glimpse into the future. Based on a compact, two-door layout, it has a pure front-engine/rear-wheel drive configuration and makes use of advanced lightweight materials in its construction.
