In 1970, Heinrich Baumgartner and Klaus Brand founded a small production facility for plastic body parts in the tranquil Black Forest village of Schiltach. Baumgartner - Brand - Schiltach. The initials of the two founders and the place combined to form the company name BBS.
BBS has ben confirmed as the single supplier of Formula 1 wheel rims starting in 2021, following its pre-selection on 5 July 2019. A consultation phase with the teams and BBS was conducted under the arbitration of the FIA Technical Department, with some resultant minor changes to the initial specification being approved today.
