Haas F1 Team: Midfield is “brutal”
Guenther Steiner, team principal at the Haas F1 Team, has revealed the difficulty and frustration of being a midfield team.
The North Carolina Formula 1 effort currently sits eighth in the Formula 1 World Constructors’ Championship with 29 points – more than 20 points ahead of Renault Sport.
Despite sitting eighth the team has been part of a season-long battle in the midfield which according to Steiner is covered by just two tenths of a second.
“It’s brutal,” admitted the Haas team principal. “There’s such a small time difference between everyone, in two tenths, you can be anywhere from 10th to 18th.”
The team has delivered five top ten finishes from 18 rounds, with just three races remaining, highlighting how difficult it is for any team to break the top ten. The Sauber F1 team has yet to score a point so far this season with Manor Racing one position ahead in tenth with one solitary point.
“There is very little in between,” Steiner added. “If you are on top of it you make it into Q3 like we did in Japan, and if you’re out of it you finish 17th like we did at COTA. It’s very, very close.”
