Ron Dennis, former McLaren CEO, commits to supply 1000 meals a day to NHS workers
Dennis has launched SaluteNHS.org with £1m from his DreamChasing charity to feed British healthcare workers during the crisis. The charity’s objectives are to maintain, support or contribute to charitable organisations and individuals in the UK or worldwide and has now put in place a £1.5m budget and joined forces with a number of companies to supply 1,000 meals a day to health workers.
He was prompted to take the action after a family meeting with his children. According to the BBC report, his daughter, Dr Charlotte Hall, said: “We were talking about how we as a charity could help everyone in the current coronavirus crisis.
“We can’t help medically but we could perhaps make the situation just a bit more bearable – being in the hospital, taking away the stress of getting food, having something hot and nutritious to eat or having something to look forward to when you get home.”
“Our target is to deliver one million meals in three months where it is needed most to the epicentre of the war effort against Covid-19,” said Dennis.
“We applaud the immense efforts of every individual and organisation that have already put their shoulders behind helping the heroes on our NHS front-line. We’re all in this together.
“I am specifically appealing to the business community and the business leaders to get involved by supporting SaluteNHS.org to achieve the ambitious target.”
