DTM goes ahead with testing in early June
Ahead of the start of its rescheduled 2020 season, DTM organisers ITR have arranged an official test for all teams – which takes place at the Nürburgring between 8 and 11 June.
It’s the signal that the DTM will officially return to the racetrack, ahead of the reveal of an all-new, revised calendar for the 2020 season.
As Europe begins to show signs of emerging from the COVID-19 epidemic that gripped public life during the spring, ITR is preparing a schedule that will embrace the ‘new normal’ post-coronavirus environment. These preparations include the hosting of races without fans or media on-site.
Starting at next month’s test, ITR will also implement infection-prevention measures for all personnel. This includes strict distancing procedures, limits on attendees, and hygiene rules. All participating team personnel will be checked for COVID-19 symptoms on a daily basis.
The new date for the Nürburgring test replaces the pre-season session that had originally been scheduled for mid-March, but which did not take place due to health and safety reasons.
“With a lot of patience and hard work, preparations for the new DTM season are up and running at full speed, kicking off with the official test at the Nürburgring next month,” said Marcel Mohaupt, ITR Managing Director. “We’re extremely grateful to everybody at the circuit – they have put the infrastructure in place to allow us to test safely with all the relevant distancing rules. The test naturally leads us to the next step, and we are extremely confident that we will be able to hold thrilling races in 2020, and that we will soon publish a new calendar.”
