Cosworth named as technical partner for Aston Martin AM-RB 001

31 July 2017

Cosworth has confirmed its involvement with the Aston Martin and Red Bull Advanced Technologies AM-RB 001 hypercar project.

As an official technical partner, Cosworth will design and manufacture a bespoke, high-revving, 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine for the AM-RB 001, which is poised to redefine the limits of road car performance.

Putting into practice its decades of high performance production engine experience, Cosworth is working to an exacting brief set by Red Bull Racing’s Chief Technical Officer, Adrian Newey and Aston Martin’s VP and Chief Special Operations Officer David King.

Cosworth will be using its state-of-the-art Advanced Manufacturing Centre in Northampton to construct some of the engine’s main components, while the company’s world-class test facilities will play an integral role in perfecting the unit.

Due to the fact that this engine is destined for road going vehicles, Cosworth must ensure it meets both the expected emissions and durability demands of its class.

A Cosworth spokesperson commented: “We are honoured to be playing such an integral role in the AM-RB 001 hypercar as an official supplier of the car’s V12 engine. Working alongside Aston Martin, Red Bull Advanced Technologies and other esteemed technical partners, we are committed to pushing performance boundaries for this innovative, market-changing car.

“Although actual manufacture of the engine is some way off, preparation work has already begun at our Northampton powertrain facility. Our designers are working closely with our in-house manufacturing engineers, with machine programming, tooling design and quality processes all underway. Having all of these capabilities under one roof is what allows such a compressed timescale to running engines: that combined with our decades of innovation results in what we refer to as the Cosworth advantage.”
