Red Bull Racing partners with Exxon Mobil

1 December 2016

Red Bull Racing has announced that for the 2017 season it will commence a new partnership with US oil giant, Exxon Mobil.

The energy drinks backed Formula 1 team is touted as the favourite to take the fight to the dominant Mercedes team in 2017. In a similar fashion to the German silver arrows, Red Bull Racing has now established a major technical partnership with a fuels and lubricant specialist.

“Mobil 1 and Red Bull Racing are two global brands that share a passion for racing, performance and innovation,” said Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner. “Mobil 1 has been an iconic brand in Formula One for more than 30 years and our new partnership provides us with a unique opportunity to tap into ExxonMobil’s world class expertise.”

ExxonMobil is yet another a sponsor predicted to be dropped from the McLaren-Honda team which leaves the team with no other major technical partnerships visible.

The partnership presents an interesting technical challenge between Renault and Red Bull in 2017 which is partnered with Total. The hybrid era has witnessed a huge focus placed on recovering energy lost thanks to friction which has placed a great emphasis on the importance of lubricants. Fuel has become just as equally as important now with the chase for efficient combustion required not necessarily cleaner fuels but definitely more refined and advanced than used in previous engine formulas.
