Sam Michael joins Triple Eight Race Engineering

1 November 2016

Former McLaren F1 team sporting director, Sam Michael, will join the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship team, Triple Eight Race Engineering.

Michael joins Triple Eight as the team begins to roll out its new range of engineering appointments, and will take on the role of a part-time mentor.

Michael enjoyed a 21-year career in Formula 1, leading engineering teams for both Williams and McLaren, before returning to Australia at the end of 2014.

Triple Eight has confirmed that it is looking forward to further developing its engineering group in the Supercars category with the former F1 engineer’s guidance.

It has also been announced that, after 17 years with Triple Eight in both Australia and the UK, technical director Ludo Lacroix will leave the team at the end of the 2016 season.

Lacroix, who has played a pivotal role in the team’s success, will continue to engineer the #888 TeamVortex Holden of Craig Lowndes for the remainder of the 2016 season, alongside John McGregor.
