Season 5 Formula E concept car dumps rear wing
Spark Racing Technology has teased concept of the SRT05e, having won the tender process to become chassis supplier for Season 5 of Formula E.
SRT05e will be the second generation Formula E chassis and will make its debut during pre-season testing ahead of Season 5 in 2018.
According the Spark, the concept is the product of four years of the Formula E championship which it claims that the car is “much more powerful”.
Spark Racing Technology was appointed as the official car supplier for Formula E by the FIA in 2013 with its appointment renewed when it won the Season 5 tender process in 2016.
The new car appears to have adopted a more aero-efficient profile and most notably Spark has opted not to use a traditional rear wing. Instead the car has a very prominent diffuser in respect to width, height and length.
Spark added that the Season 5 car will weigh less than the current SRT01 in order to accommodate a heavier battery. The battery will be heavier as Season 5 will see Formula E complete the full race distance without the need to swap cars.
McLaren Applied Technologies won the tender process to exclusively supply the Formula E grid with batteries for Season 5.
