F1’s Pat Symonds joins Andretti Cadillac

21 May 2024

Pat Symonds, Formula One’s Chief Technical Officer and Chairman of the RACE TECH World Motorsport Symposium (WMS), is to join the Andretti Cadillac team as its Executive Engineering Consultant.

The move comes as the team pursues its ambition of entering the FIA Formula One World Championship.

Symonds, who has been at F1 for the past seven years, will officially join the team at the new Silverstone base on completion of his Gardening Leave at Formula One Management.

In January F1 rejected Andretti’s bid to join F1 stating the team would not bring value to the championship. However, Formula 1 left the possibility of a 2028 entry open once the Cadillac powertrain is part of the equation.

Andretti Global Chairman and CEO Michael Andretti said: “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Pat to the Andretti family. Pat’s keen understanding of aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics and Formula One power units will be instrumental as we continue to build a competitive team.”

He added: “I believe his expertise has been pivotal in shaping the narrative of Formula One and his vote of confidence in joining our effort speaks volumes.

“I’m really happy with this next step as our work continues at pace.”
