BMW partners Andretti Formula E
German automotive manufacturer, BMW, has partnered with the Andretti Formula E team for two seasons, with a works setup ‘conceivable’ for season five.
BMW will also continue to supply the safety car, medical car and rescue vehicles with its ‘BMW I’ vehicles.
“Over the coming years, the cooperation with Andretti Formula E will primarily focus on familiarising ourselves with the procedures and processes, and on intensifying our knowledge,” said the company’s motorsport director Jens Marquardt.
The car maker is the latest to announce and official involvement in Formula E, going Jaguar, Audi, Renault and Citroen’s ‘DS’ brand. With Renault the only fully fledged works team in the all electric series so far, more manufacturers have come into the fold, hinting on a potential works team.
“A works involvement is then conceivable as of the series’ fifth season. The premise for all these steps is the further positive development of the series, which includes increasing the capacity of the batteries, for example,” explained BMW’s motorsport director.
Klaus Frohlich, member of the board of management added that the company plans to see close interaction between its motorsport and production development.
