Andy Cowell joins Aston Martin F1 as Group CEO
The former managing director at Mercedes AMG HPP, Andy Cowell, has been appointed as Aston Martin Aramco F1’s Group Chief Executive Officer.
Cowell will replace Group Chief Executive Officer, Martin Whitmarsh, on October 1st when he joins the business and will report to Aston Martin’s Executive Chairman, Lawrence Stroll.
Cowell, who is a regular Cabinet Member at the RACE TECH World Motorsport Symposium, is a Fellow of IMechE and the Royal Academy of Engineering and started his career at Cosworth before joining BMW Motorsport in 2000 and Mercedes-Ilmor in 2004 as Principal Engineer. At Mercedes-Benz HPE, he was Engineering Director between 2008 and 2013 and became Managing Director of Mercedes AMG HPP in 2013 during the successful V6 turbo-hybrid era where the Mercedes F1 team won both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships between 2014 and 2020.
